projeck wonky [Jul. 6th, 2007|12:36 pm]
I was wonky on my meds and decided to make something.
I envisaged this dress to be slouchy/lazy/fun...i am disappointed.
I now have an electric blue potato sack.

GENEROSITY [May. 17th, 2007|11:52 pm]
because my exceedingly thoughtful and generous brother decided to buy me a shuffle after i murdered my ipod, i decided to make use of another sleepless night to make a shuffle-cosy!

my shuffle won't ever have to brave Edinburgh's winter without its cosy!

I am quite frustrated, I decided on Edinburgh...but after reading all about King's and Manchester again, I'm back to square one...Well at least I've eliminated UCL.

Reading literature on the internet is counter productive. I wish this was as easy as choosing a secondary school in Singapore...I find myself having to consider factors such as research funding, reputation, industrial attachment opportunities, transport, cost of accommodation, student union activities, graduate salary..the most frustrating being COURSE UNITS. It's terrible because I have to plough through information on the courses and time-tables to avoid any potential clashes. I used to think that the flexibility of Biomed was 100% desirable, I obviously overlooked this detail.

Nevertheless, I am comforted by the fact that a lot of people back home are suffering the same plight, having to ping-pong between NUS and SMU or NUS and NTU.

I've never taken my education/career options so seriously before. It's exciting knowing that I'm going to be doing what I enjoy from 9-5 for five days of the week. NO MORE PHYSICS (you sucker), but no more math either /=

Wish I had the guts to follow my heart completely (Weird expression considering Pastor always says that Guts=Heart in Greek) then I'll be ready to pack my bag (of Chinese condiments and herbs) for Edinburgh - I can imagine enjoying the quaintness of the surroundings through the library window...In London, my view would probably be obscured by some other building. AND THE TRAFFIC oh the traffic.

I can't wait to go home, I'm missing quite a number of people...(x and j and e and w and a and p and k and z and l, go figure.)

edinburgh [May. 5th, 2007|03:15 am]
I'm LOVING Edinburgh! I think I'm going to rule out London altogether. I don't see a point in paying to live in another fast-paced city, not anymore. I'm torn between Edinburgh and Manchester. Oh God Help Me. I'll probably have to create a chart comparing factors such as modules and accommodation. If I go to Edinburgh, I'd join drama society (costumes) and golf club(: I'm excited. I'll probably have to talk to more people in the Pharmaceutical and Biomed Industry to find out which university has a better reputation. Snow Patrol played in one of Edinburgh's student union pubs recently, such a pity such a pity. Apparently, "tickets sold out like gold dust"...

On a random note, I'd die to watch Coldplay live again.

These little alleys tempt you as you walk past...
I'd liken them to black holes which supposedly suck everything into other galaxies.

Manchester [May. 4th, 2007|01:59 am]
I visited the University of Manchester yesterday (: I must say that it's my favourite University so far. In fact, I've (almost completely) ruled out UCL. The reason why I considered it is because of its position in a recent (nevertheless pretty useless) UK League Table -no5 and it's got a great reputation - Singaporean Kiasuism at it's best.

I digress...My first impression of Manchester is that it's a much younger city as compared to London. Livelier but not in a I'm-rushing-to-work sense. I think 90% of the people are students, but that's probably because I was walking along Oxford Road all the time. My visit to the Faculty of Life Sciences was a particularly pleasant one. I got to meet a student recruitment manager, a (handsome green-eyed) guy who has a zoology degree and is pursing a masters in History of Science, and a PhD student who studied Neuroscience and is writing a thesis on (some aspect of) physiology. They were delightful to be with, extremely helpful and enthusiastic about their courses. The energy level was amazing. The main attraction is probably the self-contained campus. AND, the cost of living is significantly lower than that of London, a plus point for a stingy-pok like me who will always convert pounds to sgd.

Right now, Manchester is the most appealing university. Very conducive. London's only 2hours away by train!

Hollins Hall. [May. 1st, 2007|10:33 pm]
I'm up in Yorkshire right now and today's probably the best day I've had so far in good ole England because...

I played my first (ever) 18-holes of golf at Hollins Hall, which is a  beautiful Championship course. (PAM ARE YOU READING THIS?) It was mad fun despite the crazy-ass winds. I even managed a couple of double boogies. GO ME!

SHANGHAI
i ate street food for the first time because my mum wasn't around to scare me
i lost my voice bargaining
i spent a lot of time chit-chatting with shop owners
warning: don't ever get too comfortable even if they are nice
i don't have pictures of the 'happening' city areas because i visited on a rainy 9degrees day with a useless sweater and had to keep my hands in my pockets most of the time

This is the best non-functional thing I've made.
It's four times smaller than actual size, is made from left over curtains, and the sewing is wonky but I still <3 it.

I'm in a BIG FAT dilemma!

Will it be UCL, King's, Manchester or Edinburgh?!

Each college has it's unique attraction. I hope my impending UK trip will conclude with me making a definitive decision.

HELP.
